Scottish Cup predictions by Footballpredictions.com

Founded back in 1873, Scottish Cup is an annual cup competition where 27 teams compete for the trophy. The tournament usually stars at the beginning of the football season in Scotland, in mid-August, with the final taking place in late May.

The lower-league clubs start the tournament from the preliminary round, with the Scotland Premiership clubs entering the competition at the round 4.

If teams share the spoils in original fixtures, winners are decided in replays. All Scottish Cup rounds are played as single legs, including the title game.

The final is usually hosted by Hampden Park, the venue which can hold up to 51,866 people. The first Scottish Cup final was played back in 1874, with Queen’s Park beating Clydesdale 2-0 at Hampden Park in front of 2,500 spectators.

Scottish Cup is all about Old Firm derby

As expected, Celtic and Rangers, the two bitter city rivals, are the most successful clubs in the Scottish FA Cup history. Celtic won their 39th trophy in the 2019/20 season, with the Hoops beating Hearts in the title game at Hampden Park 2-1.

Rangers, on the other hand, clinched their 33rd Scottish Cup title in the 2008/09 season as they recorded a hard-fought 1-0 win over Falkirk in the final of the competition.

Queen’s Park are the third most successful club in the history of the tournament, but they won their last Scottish Cup trophy back in 1893.

On April 24, 1937, Celtic and Aberdeen met at Hampden Park in the Scottish Cup final, the match with the highest attendance in the Scottish Cup history. No fewer than 147,365 people watched the game from the stands.

Arbroath holds the record for the biggest win in the competition, with the team crushing Bon Accord 36-0 at Gayfield Park on September 12, 1885. Former Clydebank attacker Jimmy McGrory sits in top position in the Scottish Cup all-time top scorers list.

Scottish Cup Tips, Predictions and Betting advice

Top Scotland Premiership clubs take Scottish Cup games seriously; therefore, Celtic or Rangers almost every season make it to the final of the competition.

Since top clubs’ bosses rarely rest key players in the Scottish Cup matches, underdogs rarely disappoint favourites, but you should bear in mind that reputable bookmakers do not offer high odds on the title-chasing sides.

As always, our advice is to back teams who are real forces to be reckoned with at home. Clubs who struggle in the league, give 100% to record a good result in the Scottish Cup.
